چکیده
Table 1: Common detector materials and their typical detection range within the VIS-IR wavelength regions. Above 1100nm, Silicon is transparent and therefore cannot be used to detect photons of these wavelengths, however many other materials do have photon sensitivity at these wavelengths and longer, see Table 1. The materials listed have been developed into detection systems which enable images to be acquired within the various regions of the visible to infrared spectrum. The typical definition for each ‘sub-region’ within VIS-IR wavelength range is outlined in Figure 1. Each of the materials above present their own advantages and challenges and therefore prior to detector selection the user must consider all aspects of the intended application, in addition to simply the wavelength response.

Shortwave infrared fluorescence imaging with the clinically approved near-infrared dye indocyanine green.
Fluorescence imaging is a method of real-time molecular tracking in vivo that has enabled many clinical technologies. Imaging in the shortwave IR (SWIR; 1,000-2,000 nm) promises higher contrast, sensitivity, and penetration depths compared with conventional visible and near-IR (NIR) fluorescence imaging. However, adoption of SWIR imaging in clinical settings has been limited, partially due to t...
متن کاملA Broadband Laser Illuminator for Active Hyperspectral Imaging
We have been investigating the use of supercontinuum (SC) laser technology to provide active illumination for shortwave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral sensors in order to extend their operational window into the night and heavy overcast periods. Unlike a lamp, light from a broadband laser illuminator (BLI) can propagate long distances through the atmosphere while maintaining its spatial coherenc...
متن کاملNext-generation in vivo optical imaging with short-wave infrared quantum dots
For in vivo imaging, the short-wavelength infrared region (SWIR; 1000-2000 nm) provides several advantages over the visible and near-infrared regions: general lack of autofluorescence, low light absorption by blood and tissue, and reduced scattering. However, the lack of versatile and functional SWIR emitters has prevented the general adoption of SWIR imaging by the biomedical research communit...
متن کاملAdvances on Sensitive Electron-Injection Based Cameras for Low-Flux, Short-Wave Infrared Applications
Shortwave infrared (SWIR) photon detection has become an essential technology in the modern world. Sensitive SWIR detector arrays with high pixel density, low noise levels, and high signal-to-noise-ratios are highly desirable for a variety of applications including biophotonics, light detection and ranging, optical tomography, and astronomical imaging. As such many efforts in infrared detector ...
متن کاملVisible and infrared imaging spectroscopy of paintings and improved reflectography
Background: Imaging spectroscopy, the collection of spatially co-registered images in many contiguous spectral bands, has been developed for remote sensing of the Earth utilizing reflectance or luminescence. In this paper we summarize findings on the application of imaging spectroscopy to works of art in order to identify and map artists’ pigments, improve the visualization of preparatory sketc...
